Adina Talve-Goodman Fellowship 2026: $2,000 Award and Mentorship for Emerging Fiction Writers
Each year, One Story and the Talve-Goodman Family present the Adina Talve-Goodman Fellowship in memory of writer and former One Story managing editor Adina Talve-Goodman. The fellowship provides a year of structured mentorship for an early-career fiction writer whose work addresses the complexities of living in bodies of difference.
The program is designed for writers whose stories explore the realities of marginalization, including those related to race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, age, class, religion, illness, disability, trauma, migration, displacement, dispossession, or imprisonment. It continues Talve-Goodman’s legacy of fostering space for voices that bring needed perspective to contemporary literature.
The fellowship includes a $2,000 stipend, a manuscript consultation with executive editor Hannah Tinti of One Story (for a story collection or novel in progress up to 150 pages/35,000 words), and participation in One Story’s educational programs. Fellows receive access to online classes, the One Story Writing Circle, and free admission to the magazine’s summer writers’ conference. The week-long conference features workshops, craft lectures, and discussions with literary agents and publishers.
Applicants must be fiction writers at least 21 years old as of January 1, 2026. Eligible candidates have not published a book of fiction and are not currently, nor planning to be in 2026, enrolled in an advanced degree program in creative writing, English, or literature.
Through this fellowship, One Story invests in writers at a pivotal stage in their careers, offering mentorship, visibility, and resources that help carry new voices into the literary world. Application instructions and program details are available on the One Story website.
