Purpose and scope
This policy establishes the standards For The Writers applies to prevent anonymity abuse, identity fraud, and evasion of accountability, while safeguarding contributors who face credible safety, legal, or professional risk. It applies to all submissions and published materials, including Resource Contributions, Industry Analysis, Reported Features, Personal Essays, Interviews, Profiles, Directory submissions, corrections, and updates.
For The Writers does not consider anonymous submissions unless the author’s identity has been verified and retained on file.
Definitions
For purposes of this policy, the following terms apply.
Anonymous publication: Publication without any author name displayed publicly
Pseudonymous publication: Publication under a pen name that differs from the author’s legal identity
Confidential identity: The author’s verified legal identity is maintained internally and not displayed publicly
Identity verification: An internal process confirming that the author is a real person, can be reliably contacted, and can be held accountable for the submission
Anonymity abuse: Use of anonymity or pseudonymity to publish unverified allegations, evade accountability, harass, launder credibility, or misrepresent identity, credentials, or authorship
Identifiable individual: A person is identifiable when a reasonable reader could determine identity through direct naming or indirect details, including role, employer, location, timeline, relationships, or unique facts
Governing Principles
For The Writers administers anonymity and identity controls under the following principles.
Accountability: Every submission considered for publication or listing must be traceable to a verified author identity on file
Risk-based approval: Anonymity and pseudonymity are permitted only when credible risk is demonstrated
Verification is non-negotiable: Requests for anonymity do not reduce verification requirements
Heightened scrutiny: Anonymity may increase evidentiary and documentation requirements
Consistency: Standards are enforced uniformly across submission categories
Eligibility for Anonymity or Pseudonymity
For The Writers may approve anonymity or pseudonymous publication only when the author demonstrates credible risk, and the submission can be evaluated without compromising verification, accountability, or editorial integrity.
Eligible risk categories include the following.

Legal risk: Credible risk of retaliation arising from identification, distinct from and unrelated to the truthfulness of the submission
Professional risk: Credible risk of retaliation or employment consequences, including contract or workplace exposure, where the submission has clear public-interest value within the platform scope.
Anonymity is generally not granted for convenience, preference, brand strategy, or avoidance of professional accountability.
